I guess its a bit too late to be making a New Year’s Resolution/goals list for 2017 when we already are 5 days into the new year but what the heck! Better late than never, right?

The exciting thing about a new year is the chance we have to write a new chapter in our lives. Each year presents us with a blank page to fill with whatever we want. Most of us are familiar with the cliché idea of making New Year’s Resolutions at the start of every year. We get pumped up and towards making the New Year “OUR YEAR” with unlikely goals and resolutions. Then half way into the year we recognise that we still on our lazy asses doing nothing about realising those goals.

Well I was never one for setting New Year’s resolutions. Maybe not intentionally, like writing it down and pasting it on my wall or journal. However, at the start of each year I would make a list of things (in my mind though) that I would like to do before the year runs out. Sadly I never get to the doing part most times. This year however, I feel like things definitely must change for the better. And after much research-mostly through watching YouTube videos-I finally got enough info on how and why I should make a list of goals I want to achieve this year. As the saying goes ‘Dreams remain dreams till the moment you write them down. Then they become goals’. So, I present you with my first official new year’s resolution/goals for 2017;

  • Quit Procrastinating

OMG, I cannot over-stress the urgent need for me to quit this habit. I am a big procrastinator. I never do anything at the right time. Heck, I snooze my alarm more than five times every morning before I get up! Procrastination is something most of us struggle with and this year, I say NO to it. I don’t precisely know how I’m going to deal with it but all I know is I have to, because it’s been affecting a lot of things in my life-especially my studies. I’ve visited some amazing blogs and vlogs on how to overcome it. Most have been really helpful. If you struggle with procrastination or have any helpful tips on how to overcome it, please comment down below!

  • Add weight

Yeah, I know this may come as a great shock to most of you. A lot of us are trying to lose those extra pounds. Who in their right mind would want to add some? Well, permit me to say, I would. I’m underweight. I’ve been underweight for most of my life. Somehow, no matter how much I eat or don’t eat, I never add weight. So, this year, I’ve decided to increase my calorie intake. Not precisely increasing quantity of food but increasing the intervals. I eat just three times a day, most times skipping breakfast because of my lectures. So now, I’ll eat 5 times or more, not in particularly large quantities though; just a bite here and there. Also, its essential to be hydrated, so 8 glasses of water should do the trick. That doesn’t mean that I’ll quit exercising. Exercise is essential whether you are underweight or overweight 🙂

  • Remember people’s birthday more often

Although I’m quite good with stuff that involves numbers-like math-I just can’t get myself to memorize people’s birthdays. The only birthdays that have seemed to stick in my head are my mom, two brothers, and mine. I don’t know any of my friend’s birthdays by heart, I don’t even remember my dad’s! Well thank God for Facebook tho-am I right?! I know it’s really bad but I’ve tried. However, this year, I’m going to make a conscious effort to take note of everyone’s birthday through my trusty planner! I recently downloaded some awesome printables that you can attach to your journal/planner from . I think you guys should definitely go check them out-plus it’s free!  {Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. I just loved the product and thought I’d share it with you guys :)}

  • Read more

I’m not much of a reader or writer but this year, I’ve become very interested in all things literature. I think reading helps increase your vocabulary and makes you eloquent when you speak and I’ve decided to make reading a hobby. However, I have a really busy schedule this year filled with exams and school stuff I don’t really want to bore you about. So I’ve resolved to read 1 book a month (fictional or non-fictional). So if you have any suggestions on books you would love for me to read, please comment down below and I would gladly add them to my reading list 🙂

  • Be more outspoken/confident

I was chatting with one of the guys I met at a tutorial centre last year and he described me as shy and introvert-ish, almost too innocent. I didn’t know whether to take that as a compliment plus, is there anything as being ‘too innocent’? I guess it’s because of his first impression of me. I’m the type of person that has trouble socializing. If I meet someone for the first time, I hardly have anything to ask or talk about. I kinda prefer if the other person does the talking. Even in class at-times, if I know the answer to a question, I never raise my hand, and I almost always never get called to answer any questions. It’s like I’m invisible-I really don’t like attention. So this year, I’ve resolved to be more confident, outspoken and to say ‘hi’ to people more often, whether they respond or not. After all, the most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence-Blake Lively

  • Get my life organised

I guess this comes as an extension of ‘quit procrastinating’. Normally, I almost always get to class late, never do my assignments on time, and usually forget one thing or the other I’m supposed to do. So therefore, this year, I’ve decided to get myself organised through the good ‘ol trusty planner method. I’ve never actually had or used a planner before but I’m so excited to get one! If you have any planners in mind that you’d love for me to get, please comment down below!

  • Get a new phone

Yeah, recently my phone’s been going through sort of a ‘phase’. I dunno whether to call it a mental breakdown or just occasional deliquency- like deciding that its not going to come on today, or connect to the wifi, or open an assignment I so desperately need to turn in. So therefore, I’ve decided to get a new phone this year. Not by myself obviously, still thinking of a way to bring the topic up to my dad, but I most certainly will not take no for an answer. Fingers crossed 🙂

  • Get closer to God

This actually should’ve been number one on my list, but I guess I saved the best for last. In 2016, I admit I wasn’t really ‘God inclined’. I hardly read my Bible and devotionals and rarely had a schedule for prayer-I kinda only prayed on service days. But I want to change all that this year. God is supposed to be No. 1 in our lives and most times we’ve let our school work, career, friends and even the internet take his place. In the end, let us remember the things that truly matter in life. The faith and hope we have in God and His word, our love for him and for others around us and the people we help and the lives we touch.

And now there remain: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love.

-I Corinthians 13:13

  1. Aw Jess these are great things to accomplish in the new year! I’m totally (trying) to go for the 1 book a month too. The first one I plan on reading is called “It ends with us” my best friend suggested it to me. From what I gather its a kinda girly, fun, sentimental kind of story. I need to actually get the book first in order to start it though lol

  3. I hope you are able to stick with your resulutions 🙂
    Journaling can help with getting more organised and prevent procrastiation. (I try to stop to procrestinate as well)
    I can recomment goodreads. There you can set a reading goal for the year. They will also recomment books for you based on your interests. I think it’s quite helpfull, may check it out 🙂

  4. Love your resolutions.

    I actually posted about procrastination too:

    It’s one of the biggest hurdles in my life. Lol. I didn’t do resolutions this year.. but instead will focus on 3 major goals:

    May I ask, are you a Christian? I like that you wanted to spend more time for God this year. It’s also one of the things I need to do. It’s always easier if you have accountability partners… I just started a weekly devotion on my blog for this reason. I’m hoping that we can all reflect on the Word consistently… ❤ ❤ ❤
